From Wednesday to Sunday this week Paraty will be holding its world-known literary fair - FLIP. This year homages will be paid to Machado de Assis - a great Brazilian writer who left us 100 years ago. I'll be there for the weekend (if weather allows off course), and see what I can learn about one of my favourite authors!!! This is the best excuse ever for you to visit Paraty if you haven't been there yet - the city is trully magical and FLIP grasps its wonders in form of events, music, poetry and culture!!!

But if you decide to stay in Rio you still can get to know more about Machado de Assis. Back in 1896, Assis was nominated the first president of our Academia Brasileira de Letras (ABL, downtown Rio) and the academy - which he also helped found - will be organising the event "Machado Vive" based on his life, his writing and his enourmous contribution to our literature.

BTW, HAPPY HOL's everyone! :D
